Common Dreams Part 2: My Teeth Are Falling Out!

Everyone was looking at me funny…oh gosh not again, I go to the mirror and to my horror I realize my teeth were missing! Thankfully I woke up and realized it was just a dream.

Welcome to the second part of our Common Dreams mini-series! Last week, we discussed the common dream of being naked. This week, we will explore dreams about teeth.
Dreams of falling teeth are one of the most common dreams reported to Dream Moods. These dreams can take various forms, such as teeth crumbling in your hands, falling out one by one with just a light tap, growing crooked, or starting to rot. Regardless of the variation, these dreams are always terrifying.

“My Teeth Are Falling Out”

One theory behind these dreams is that they reflect anxieties about appearance and how others perceive you. Teeth play a crucial role in conveying attractiveness and are essential in the game of flirtation. Therefore, such dreams may stem from a fear of rejection, sexual impotence, or the consequences of aging. Dream research found that women in menopause often have frequent dreams about teeth, pointing to teeth dreams as related to getting older and feeling unattractive.

Another possible interpretation of falling teeth dreams is rooted in the fear of embarrassment or making a fool of yourself in a situation. These dreams can be an exaggeration of worries and anxieties, and sometimes what plays out in your mind is far worse than reality.
Teeth also symbolize power, as they are used to bite, tear, chew, and gnaw. The loss of teeth in dreams may represent a sense of powerlessness in some current situation, difficulty expressing oneself or getting a point across, or feelings of inferiority and lack of self-confidence in a situation or relationship. This dream may be an indication to be more assertive and believe in the importance of what you have to say.

Traditionally, bad or falling teeth were thought to indicate malnutrition or a poor diet, and this notion may still be applicable to some dreamers. However, other cultures have different interpretations of falling teeth dreams. For instance, Hispanic and Greek cultures believe that these dreams indicate that a family member or close friend is very sick or even near death. In Chinese culture, there is a saying that teeth fall out if you tell lies. Some also believe that dreaming of teeth falling out symbolizes money, based on the old tooth fairy story.

In some scriptural interpretations, dreaming of bad or falling teeth indicates that you are putting your faith, trust, and beliefs in what man thinks, rather than in the word of God. The Bible says that God speaks once, yea twice in a dream or a vision to hide pride from us, keep us back from the pit, open our ears spiritually, and instruct and correct us.

In conclusion, falling teeth dreams may stem from various anxieties and worries. They may indicate a fear of rejection, embarrassment, or loss of power, or represent a call for more assertiveness and self-confidence. Regardless of the interpretation, understanding the meaning behind our dreams can provide insight into our subconscious mind and help us address underlying issues.
