Need a little help fixing your sleep patterns? There’s an app for that. Actually, there are a whole bunch of apps for that. Nature sounds, self-hypnosis and even tutorials that will help guide you to your quiet place, where you can bid farewell to the day and welcome sleep with open arms.
One of the best-known sleep (and most popular) apps, Sleep Cycle, tracks sleep patterns throughout the night. Instead of setting a specific time to wake up, you give the app a 30 minute window and it wakes you gently during your lightest sleep phase. Data is stored in the app so you can see how well you sleep each night, as well as track sleep habits over time. Learn to change your sleep patterns by tweaking your bedtime, wearing noise-cancelling headphones or getting a more comfortable mattress. Just saying!
Sleep Cycle is available on iOS and Android. For even more data, try MotionX: 24/7 Sleeptracker or for Android-only, try Sleep as Android.
Ignore the funny name because this app is serious about helping you understand your sleep patterns. It claims to be the ultimate solution to insomnia and uses science to back up its claims. Utilizing techniques like NLP (neurolinguistic programming), binaural beats and sound effects, you’ll soon know more about sleep than you ever thought possible. What’s more, the software offers a new playlist every time so you’ll never hear the same tune twice.
Pzizz is available for both Android and iOS devices.
What could be more relaxing than falling asleep to the pitter-patter of rain? Plug in your earbuds and choose from 20 audio clips of rain ranging from gentle, medium and heavy rainfalls. From choices like raindrops on foliage to a torrential downpour, you’re sure to find a favorite.
Sleepmaker Rain is available for both Android and iOS devices.
4. Long Deep Breathing
Yoga aficionados know breathing deeply before sleep helps calm the mind and body and plays an important role in overall health. Learn how to use a variety of breathing techniques to set the length of your inhales and exhales manually for optimal relaxation and better health.
Long Deep Breathing is available only for iOS devices.
We love this app because it’s great background noise for reading or falling asleep. Choose from a variety of nature sounds, including a crackling campfire, songbirds or the roar of the ocean. Tranquil images accompany the soundtracks if you’d like to use the app to help you meditate. Set the built-in alarm to wake you. Sweet, right?
Nature Sounds Relax and Sleep is available only for Android devices.
Packed with 65 high-quality sounds, this app allows users to customize their pre-sleeping experience. Along with nature, instruments and lullabies, you’ll see a “Life” category with sounds of helicopters, showers, bubbles and even a heart beating. There are also contemplative meditation tunes. Pick a sound. Set the timer. Start relaxing.
aSleep is available only for iOS devices
